History of the sewing machine

The first patent for the sewing machine was issued in England in 1755, but the distribution of sewing machines did not work: the design was still very imperfect. At the beginning of XIX century in different countries have been attempts to build a machine that facilitates the work of a tailor. In the photo - the invention of the Englishman James - Perry (1808 - year).
This machine, like all the previous ones, was single, that consisted of one suture thread is pulled through the fabric with a needle and the shuttle was not. Therefore seam easily dissolved, had only to pull the end of the thread or break it in one place. Sewing machine with shuttle invented by an American, Elias Howe in 1845
Its principle - fixing stitches second thread running from the bottom - and is still used in sewing machines. In the photo on the right - the design in 1858. Obviously symbolize joy household labor. In the middle - "freak" in the family sewing machine: using the shuttle, invented Howe, the inventor wanted to disguise plagiarism by changing the look of the machine and the way to it. Machine screwed to the table as meat grinder, and the tailor with one hand flipped "scissors", driving mechanism, and the other hand to feed the fabric under / needle.

Curious as me at first look at the sewing machine: two systems shown here - bare utility, and the other two seemed ashamed of their "machine" technology in their hides. Familiar to the modern form of the sewing machine, which intelligently combines technology and aesthetics, there was only the beginning of XX century.
