The Circus Maximus was an arena used for chariot races. It
had 300,000 seats and could hold one quarter of the population.
The first version was made by the Etruscans as was made of
wood. It burnt down twice, so The Romans then built it out of stone and
concrete.
Races were seven laps. They were counted by bronze dolphins
and wooden eggs in the middle of the track.
The Circus Maximus was different from other
Roman places. The admission was free and women sat with men in the stands.
